Haiti Gets Hit by Massive 7.0 Earthquake

On January 12, 2010 Haiti was hit by a massive 7.0 earthquake.
Around 230,000 to 250,000 people were killed and about 250,000 were injured with 2,000,000 left on the streets. The first country to send relief to Haiti was there neighboring country, the Dominican Republic. Several countries have made an effort to send search and rescue teams but the port was destroyed and only one airstrip was left functioning. Read more
SPELL-IT ARRIVING at LOWRY ELEMENTARY!

New at Lowry Elementar, Spell-It has squeezed its way into a few fourth and fifth graders lives.
Spell-It is a very challenging vocabulary class; the words you learn are eighth grade words! The kids take home worksheets, which are the children’s spelling homework for the week. The sheets are the second place to find the words. During every unit of words the kids get a long list of words for that are divided by language of origin such as Greek, Spanish, Latin, etcetera. Sydney Heck, a student in the GT program, says, “It rocks because it gives kids to excel in reading, writing and math.”

The Buzz about the Spelling Bee

Have you ever been to a spelling bee? Well guess what? On December 8, 2009, the ten students who got the highest score on the Spell It spelling test went to RMSEL (Rocky Mountain School of Expeditionary Learning) to have a spelling bee.
The Lowry students, their supporters and of course, Mrs. Spampinato took a bus to RMSEL. Read more
The Ultimate Place Called Balarat!

October 21st through the 23rd, the fifth graders at Lowry Elementary went to Balarat Outdoor Education Center.
Balarat is located in Jamestown, Colorado and helps students learn team building and about nature. Balarat is not a one day field trip. When the fifth graders went, they stayed there for three days and two nights. They had to sleep in bunk beds, not in regular beds like in most homes. Read more
